The birth of Venus, Sandro Botticelli |
On 23rd April Ludovico Sforza sends a letter to Maffeo da Treviglio, Ambassador to the court of Matthias Corvinus, King of Hungary. He states that he has commissioned a painting from Leonardo on the King’s behalf, “a figure of Our Lady as beautiful, as superb, and as devout as he knows how to make without sparing any effort.”
Leonardo may have painted the Portrait of a Musician, left unfinished, around this time.
Around this time Botticelli paints the Birth of Venus in Florence.
