First Milanese period 1481/2 - 1499

Leonardo, along with the brothers Evangelista and Giovan Ambrogio da Predis, signs a contract to decorate the altarpiece for the Confraternity of the Immaculate Conception in the church of S. Francesco il Grande in Milan. The central painting was to be the Virgin of the Rocks.
