First Florentine period 1464/69 - 1481/83

On 27th May Verrocchio’s Bronze Ball is positioned on top of the lantern of the Duomo of Florence Cathedral.

Francesco Maria della Rovere is elected Pope as Sixtus IV (uncle of Pope Julius II). He commissions the building of the Sistine Chapel in Rome, later to be frescoed by Michelangelo.
