Second Milanese period 1506/08 - 1513

On 5nd January Leonardo writes that a quarry “above Saluzzo” has marble of the hardness of porphyry “if not greater”, and that his friend the maestro Benedetto has promised to give him a piece to use as a painter’s palette for mixing colours.

On 10th and 18th September Leonardo records that the invading Swiss soldiers have set fires in the city of Milan, marking the end of the French domination of Milan.

Leonardo and his household abandon the city, settling for some time at the Melzi family villa in Vaprio d’Adda.

Erasmus publishes his satirical masterpiece In Praise of Folly.
